With over ten years of experience teaching students of all ages, I have discovered that an individually tailored lesson approach works best. I strive to understand what excites you about music, and we build from there. Learning with Sam has been a real step forward in my guitar progress and made it a much more fun process to be shared! He’s incredibly patient and curates the classes around your interests and areas in need of improvement. This engagement with music has made previously tricky subjects seem a lot clearer and attainable and has been a true credit to my enjoyment of musical concepts. Sam is an amazing teacher! He has been teaching our son since the start of the year and our boy absolutely loves his lessons! Sam is patient and interacts well with our son, he takes interest in his music taste and is always very enthusiastic and encouraging! I’ve been taking guitar lessons with Sam since January and I’d highly recommend him. I got in touch because I wanted to improve my understanding of music theory and how it actually applies to the guitar. Sam has a really strong grasp of theory and explains it in a way that makes sense on the instrument, which has helped things click for me. He’s very friendly and approachable, always happy to answer questions, and he clearly puts a lot of thought into understanding what you want to get out of the lessons. Typical Lesson Outline

20 minutes: Technical exercises/warm up – Scales, Arpeggios and how they relate to chord shapes

20 minutes: General musicianship – notation and/or chord reading, transcription, improvisation, aural skills

20 minutes: Repertoire – learning pieces that you or I have chosen. I often use this as a vehicle for general musicianship skills and we may spend a whole 40 minutes on a chosen piece.

Lessons are available for students across Glasgow and surrounding areas including Shawlands, Partick, Giffnock, Battlefield, Govanhill and Govan.
